As students move into Secondary School, academic expectations grow and subject choices expand. Through deeper Study, Competitions, Leadership opportunities and wider involvement in school life, students develop their skills, discover new passions and begin defining their academic and personal Direction.
HIGHSCHOOL
Starting Year 12, students pursue either the IB Diploma Programme or A-Levels, choosing subjects aligned with their strengths and University ambitions. Greater Independence, Leadership and real-world experiences prepare them for the transition to higher education and the opportunities that lie ahead.
Student Life
Student development continues through Clubs, Competitions, Sports teams, Performances, Leadership opportunities and Volunteering. These experiences allow students to explore their interests, build confidence and develop the skills that shape them far beyond academic learning.

WELLBEING & SUPPORT
At BIST, wellbeing is not an add-on — it’s part of how we teach and care. Here, every child is seen, heard, and supported throughout their educational journey.
The staff are fully trained to support the wellbeing of every student.
Our campus is designed to support the wellbeing of our students, with appropriate design, accessibility features and ample green spaces.
Where specific educational needs are identified, the school SEND coordinator (Student Counsellor) will put together an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) together with the parents and the class teacher.
SMSC stands for spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. An international school with a British based curriculum must prove that the SMSC component is imbedded in the school routine, in and outside the lessons.
The Path to University
The university application process is both challenging and exciting, requiring careful preparation. At BIST, we have designed a comprehensive programme to support students in planning their path to university, beginning in Year 10 and continuing through to Year 13. This journey starts with individual guidance and coaching meetings, helping students make informed decisions about subject choices and academic development.
Students receive tailored support in exploring career interests, choosing the right course of study and identifying universities that match their ambitions. Guidance becomes increasingly personalised as students progress through Secondary School and Sixth Form.
For students aiming at highly competitive universities, the programme provides individual action plans, regular progress meetings and specialised preparation for applications, including personal statements, interviews and external testing where required.
Students gain valuable insights into future pathways through university visits, internships, career talks and meetings with university representatives. These experiences help them understand academic and professional opportunities worldwide.
The programme prepares students for the university application process by developing essential skills such as research, academic writing and interview preparation, ensuring they can confidently present themselves to universities around the world.
Partnership in education
We believe children thrive when families and teachers work closely together. Through open communication, regular updates and dialogue, we build a relationship based on trust, clarity and collaboration throughout every stage of a student’s journey.
Parents stay informed through our internal communication platform and a school newsletter distributed twice each month, sharing updates, important announcements and highlights from school life.
Regular parent–teacher meetings and performance review discussions allow families to follow their child’s academic progress, discuss development and set future goals together with teachers.
Throughout the year, parents are invited to a variety of events including orientation days for new families, subject option evenings, parent workshops and informal gatherings, creating opportunities to learn more about school life and educational programmes.
We maintain an open-door policy that allows parents to book meetings with teachers, Heads of Department or the School Leadership Team whenever guidance, clarification or support is needed.
students' voice
Students take an active role in shaping school life by organising events, supporting initiatives and mentoring younger peers while developing leadership and teamwork skills.
In Primary School, the Prefects and Student Council system gives students the opportunity to develop leadership, responsibility and a sense of community from an early age. Selected students act as role models, supporting school life and helping maintain a positive and respectful environment.
Through the Student Council, representatives share ideas, raise concerns and contribute to the organisation of school activities. This encourages communication, confidence and collaboration, while helping students understand that their voice matters and can have a real impact on their school community.
The BIST Student Leadership Organisation gives students the opportunity to take an active role in shaping school life, making the school environment more engaging and enjoyable for their peers.
Participation in the Student Leadership Organisation allows students to develop valuable life skills, including: Communication, Leadership, Organisation, Collaboration, Community Engagement
INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE
The IB Student Leadership Organisation (IBSLO) brings together IB Diploma students who wish to take an active role in supporting the school community. In line with the IB philosophy and the values of the IB Learner Profile, students mentor Year 11 peers preparing to enter the IB Diploma Programme.
Through their involvement in the IB Student Leadership Organisation (IBSLO), students actively develop and demonstrate the attributes of the IB Learner Profile while supporting the school community and mentoring younger peers.
